SAASE Clean Team Program

The Clean Team Program is designed to work with youth and with rural communities to address environmental issues of waste management.

Project Overview

The Clean Team is a unique, award-winning environmental stewardship between Saskatchewan Association of Agricultural Societies (SAASE), local agricultural societies and exhibitions, and a variety of non-profit organizations throughout Saskatchewan. The program addresses waste management and disposal on fair grounds in a positive and proactive “3R” program of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Since its inception in 2002, the program has doubled in size from ten locations to twenty.

The project involves youth groups by engaging young people as Clean Team members at each participating location, collecting and recycling waste materials on fair grounds during annual exhibitions. In addition to reducing volume at local landfi lls, benefi ts to local communities include additional fair volunteers, revenue for local non-profit groups through honoraria and recycling proceeds, and year-round availability of refuse and recycle bins.

Participating communities include Turtleford, Creelman,Shand, Biggar, Rosthern, The Battlefords, Estevan, Melfort, Melville, Moose Jaw, Nipawin, Prince Albert, Swift Current, Weyburn, Yorkton, Abernethy, Bengough, Bruno, Meadow Lake, and Radisson.
